How to Install Pharos Printers on Windows Computers

This documents describes how to install the Pharos printers on a Windows computer and set common options. The Pharos print system is the cost-per-page printers located in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, and Eugene and is available to all students, faculty and staff.

Prerequisites

Identify if you are running a 32-Bit or 64-Bit Operating System

  • To identify what system type you are running right click on the windows start button, then select system, in the settings window that pops up under system type you will see 32-Bit or 64-Bit operating system (If you are running windows 10 you most likely have a 64-bit operating system.) You will need this information for downloading the correct installer.

Downloading Pharos PopUp Installer

  1. From a web browser go to https://pacificu.box.com/Pharos
  2. Browse to the Windows folder
  3. In Windows folder, there are 32 and 64 bit installers for each campus location (Forest Grove, Hillsboro, and Eugene). Download the installer for the OS version and location that applies to you to your computer. 

Installing the Pharos Popup Utility

  1. Locate the installer file(s) that you previously downloaded and double-click to start the installer. Click “Install” to begin the installation process. Click “Finish” to close the installer when done.
  2. If you need to install the queue for another campus location, run the next installer and repeat the process.

You should now have the Pacific University Pharos copier installed and ready to use on your computer.

Printing to Pharos Printers

  1. From any application’s print dialog, choose any of the Pacific University Pharos Printers in the printer list.
  2. Once you click Print and your computer has processed your print job you should be prompted by the Pharos PopUp utility for your Username. Be sure to enter your PUNetID and then click Print.
  3. You can now release your print job from any of the campus print release stations.

Additional Print Options

The Pharos Copiers are capable of printing both color and black & white print jobs and are billed by color detection. If you have color in your document and do not want it to print in color, you can force it to print black & white.

To force a job to print black & white:

  1. With the Pharos printer selected in the Print window, click the “Properties” button to bring up additional options.
  2. Select the “Image Options” tab.
  3. Check the box next to “Xerox Black and White Conversion”

At this point, the document will print in black & white and be billed at the B&W rate.
