Background

The Pharos print system allows users to print to the cost-per-page printers located in Forest Grove and Hillsboro campuses and is available to all students, faculty and staff. This documents describes how to install the Pharos printers and set common options.

  • Audience: Pacific University students, faculty and staff
  • Platform: Windows OS (64 bit and 32 bit)
  • Application: Pharos Xerox printers

 

Procedure

1. Downloading Pharos PopUp Installer

  1.  OPTIONAL: If you’re unsure whether your Windows Operating System is 32-bit or 64-bit, check your system properties by navigating to: Windows Settings (Control Panel) => System => About => and verify the System Type

  2. Open https://pacificu.box.com/Pharos in Web browser.
  3. Browse to the Windows folder:inline-image
     

  4. Determine the appropriate installer for the System Type and location that applies to you to your computer:
    • Campus Locations: Forest Grove, Hillsboro;
    • System type: 64 bit and 32 bit (W2K);

  5. Download the identified installer file:inline-image


2. Installing the Pharos Popup Utility

  1. Locate the installer file(s) that you previously downloaded and double-click to start the installer:

  2. Since the installer is making changes to your computer, you may see an alert from the UAC (User Account Control) or Anti-Virus (Windows Defender, etc.) protection that you have running on the computer. If any of these messages appear, allow the install to proceed as the software has already been validated by Pacific University:inline-imageinline-image
     
  3. Click "Install" button in the installer pop-up window and monitor the install progress:inline-image
     
  4. Clock "Finish" button when the install is completed:

  5. This completes your install. You will find Pacific University Pharos copier 'printer' in your installed and ready to use on your computer:inline-image
  • If you need to install the queue for another campus location, run the next installer and repeat the process.


3. Printing to Pharos Printers

  1. From any application’s print dialog, choose any of the Pacific University Pharos Printers in the printer list.
  2. Click Print
  3. Pharos PopUp utility will prompt you for your Username after the print job has been processed by your computer:
    1. Enter your PUNetID, and
    2. Click Print.
  4. You can now release your print job from any of your campus print release stations using the print station touch screen or the Pharos Mobile site.


4. Additional Print Options

The Pharos Copiers are capable of printing both color and black & white print jobs and are billed by color detection. If you have color in your document and do not want it to print in color, you can force it to print black & white.

To force a job to print black & white:

  1. With the Pharos printer selected in the Print window, click the “Properties” button to bring up additional options.
  2. Select the “Image Options” tab.
  3. Check the box next to “Xerox Black and White Conversion”

At this point, the document will print in black & white and be billed at the B&W rate.
