Zoom Phone Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ )

Introduction

Zoom Phone is an optional calling feature which can be purchased for Pacific University Zoom and Protected Data Zoom accounts.. Once enabled, basic telephone features (call in, call out) become available to the account holder.

Can I use Zoom Phone to communicate with patients in my clinic?

Yes, due to COIVD-19 (Spring/Summer 2020) the ability for Telehealth has been provisionally approved, including Zoom Phone for Protected Data Zoom. Zoom Phone is the preferred telephone solution for communicating with patients to reduce the likelihood that a personal cell phone is used to communicate directly with patients. Please contact Clinic or College/School leadership to initiate the process with UIS to get it started.

Can I use Zoom Phone for outgoing calls?

Yes. For off-campus calling to clinic patients, Zoom Phone is the preferred technology

Can I use Zoom Phone to receive incoming calls?

Depending on need, this may be an option. While technically feasible, please see the information below on voicemail settings. Incoming calls from clinic patients should be routed to a non-Zoom University phone number.

I expect a high volume of incoming calls and need additional support.

Can I record my call?

No. Unfortunately, Zoom Phone recordings are saved locally (not to the cloud) and this option is therefore currently disabled.

Are text messages supported?

Zoom does not provide SMS text message functionality.

What is the cost?

Zoom Phone costs roughly $14 per user per month. Costs decrease as more phone licenses are purchased. Please contact Clinic or College/School leadership to initiate the process with UIS to get it started.

What is my Zoom Phone number?

When you are enrolled in Zoom Phone, you will receive an email message from Zoom containing your extension.Call routing does not allow an incoming call to reach your extension.

911 Emergency Address Settings

An address is required for calls made to emergency services. Add a new emergency address under your personal settings: login to Pacific Zoom or Protected Data Zoom. Under personal settings, select Phone, then select the Settings tab. Next to Emergency Address click Manage and add your preferred emergency address.

Required Voicemail Settings

While Zoom Phone can provide outgoing call functionality, it is still required to use existing University telephone numbers and voicemail services for incoming calls. Therefore, each Zoom Phone user must disable their voicemail box. To do this:

  • Login to Pacific Zoom or Protected Data Zoom.
  • Under personal settings, select Phone
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • Under When a call is not answered use the dropdown box to select Disconnect

Optionally, you can choose to Play a message, then disconnect option where you can select a recorded message before disconnecting this call. This is recommended to provide incoming callers with information about which campus telephone number to call instead.

You should change the default PIN code for voicemail. Do this in the Phone Settings:

  • Login to Pacific Zoom or Protected Data Zoom.
  • Under personal settings, select Phone
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • Under Voicemail and PIN Code
  • Select Show or Edit and add a custom PIN for voicemail access.
