StarTech HDMI Wireless Extender Troubleshooting Guide
Issue:
Image not appearing on secondary monitor
Check monitor power
: Monitor power may have become disconnected, or the monitor may just be off. Check to make sure that the monitor cable is securely connected to both wall socket and the monitor itself. If the cable is snug on both ends, press the power button on the monitor. This is typically found on the bottom of the monitor, far righthand side. Even if the HDMI connection is broken, the monitor will still display a message saying “No HDMI detected”, or something similar depending on the model. If the screen remains black, then the monitor is not receiving power or has encountered a critical hardware failure. Please submit a ticket to HCIT.
Ensure that the monitor is on the correct input:
Monitor input may be incorrect. Find the button that changes the input (will be located to the left of the power button), and ensure that HDMI or AUTO is selected.
Check Windows Display Settings:
To access the Windows Display Settings, right click on your Windows Desktop, then select “Display Settings” (
Figure 1
). There are a couple of settings to check once you are in the display settings:
Check to ensure that secondary monitor is detected:
The secondary monitor should appear on the graphic display (
Figure 2)
. If the secondary monitor is not detected, make sure that both ends of the wireless HDMI receiver are plugged in securely to the computer and monitor respectively. If you are uncomfortable with cabling, submit a ticket to UIS and we can take a look.
Check the “Multiple Displays” setting:
Under the “Multiple Displays” header, check the “Multiple Displays” dropdown, and make sure that it is either set to “Extend desktop to this display” or “Duplicate desktop on 1 and 2”, depending on what you would like (
Figure 3
).
Check StarTech HDMI Wireless Extender:
If you haven’t already, check to make sure that both the extender transmitter and receiver are snugly plugged in to the HDMI ports of the secondary monitor and computer, respectively. For the transmitter, which will be on the computer end, make sure that power is plugged in as well. Also ensure that lights on both the transmitter and receiver are on, indicating that the units are functioning normally.
Further Action:
If you have completed all of the above steps, and are still encountering an issue, please submit a ticket to UIS, and UIS staff will take a look as soon as they are able.
