Avigilon (Blue Horizons) Camera Systems

Provided To

Avigilon camera systems are maintained for the safety of all Pacific university students, employees, patients and guests.  Faculty and staff may be given access to these cameras.

Description

Blue Horizons is the university's preferred vendor for Avigilon security camera systems (as well as other security and physical access control systems).  Security cameras are used by CPS to monitor safety at various Pacific University campuses and locations.  Security camera systems have also been purchased by individual departments for purposes that include door, patient interaction, and classroom academic honesty monitoring.

UIS Support Level

Generally, these systems are Not Supported by UIS (all support provided by the vendor and Subject Matter Expert), but with the following exceptions:

  • UIS maintains the network connections used by Avigilon devices (including cameras and DVR units) and will assist verifying DVR or camera(s) are accessible on the network or will troubleshoot as needed to determine what the issue might be. Note that UIS doesn't document camera details or credentials and as such our verification is limited to making sure the device is simply responsive on the appropriate network.
  • UIS maintains the university-owned computers that Avigilon monitoring software runs on, will troubleshoot the basic functionality of these devices, and will assist CPS with installation of monitoring software.
  • In a situation where a camera or system used for safety monitoring is not functioning in a way that is creating an impact on safety, UIS will do basic troubleshooting of the affected devices and will coordinate their actions and findings with the Avigilon Subject Matter Expert (see below).  However, since UIS' ability to solve the problem is not guaranteed, it is expected that Campus Public Safety will simultaneously seek assistance from the Avigilon Subject Matter Expert and/or Blue Horizons tech support.

For departments other than CPS using Avigilon camera systems, call both CPS and UIS when safety is currently impacted.  When safety is not being impacted, submit a help ticket to UIS for initial computer troubleshooting.  If UIS is able to rule out computer issues, please contact CPS for software or permissions troubleshooting and if needed CPS will contact UIS for additional network troubleshooting if DVR or cameras themselves have issues. If CPS determines that Blue Horizons tech support needs to make a field service call, the charges for this call will be charged to the department using the camera system.
