Wow, finals are done, commencement is happening, and a busy summer season begins for your UIS team. Congratulations to all the graduates and to the faculty and staff who guided and supported them in their journey. In UIS our focus is on replacing computers, wireless upgrade projects, security enhancements, and continuing to work on a variety of improvements in our electronic health records. Let’s hope we finally get some sun (it's been a cold May). As always, your UIS team is just a phone, email, or Zoom connection away!
Thank you and go Boxers!

Hillsboro Staff Transitions
Leah Blake, supervisor of the Hillsboro location of the Technology Helpdesk, has left Pacific University. UIS is conducting a search for her replacement. In the meantime, the Hillsboro Helpdesk office is still staffed and open, as is the ongoing Zoom Helpdesk meeting.
Box Edit for Apple File Types
Box Edit, the add-on that automates the editing of files from the Box web interface, can now edit Apple iWork file types (Pages, Numbers, Keynote). To use this capability, you must have Box Edit on your computer (standard with university-issued computers) and the Apple iWork applications (available via the Pacific University Self Service app). (Note that Office and Google Drive are still the only productivity suites that UIS has the expertise to support.)
Boxer Mail Tip: Unsending Messages
After you send a message using the Boxer Mail web interface, you have a brief period (5 seconds by default) where you can unsend the message. After sending the message, you'll see a small grey box in the bottom left with a link called "undo."
You can increase the time you have to undo sending the message by going to the gear icon in the top right, going to "see all settings," and in the "general" tab find "Undo Send" and set the time as desired (maximum 30 seconds). Be sure to click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page. See Google's full documentation on this feature.
Thanks to Leah Blake for this tip.
Box/Google Problems Resolved
In late April, Pacific employees made us aware of an issue with Google file types (e.g. Docs, Sheets) stored in Box. Files would become unable to save changes, seemingly at random. We worked with Box support and they were able to implement a fix for the problem. All files that were previously broken should work normally now.
Restrictions for Symantec Endpoint Protection on June 1
As reported in previous newsletters, any computer still running Symantec Endpoint Protection (yellow shield icon) will have its access to the internet limited as of June 1. Since June of 2021, when it was replaced with our new antivirus software, Sophos, UIS has been working to remove this software from every computer we can.
