Technology Purchasing: Object Codes

Tags Purchasing

Introduction

Pacific University uses Object Codes for coding the type of a purchase.  The Object code is four digits at the end of a GL number and is used in Purchasing card reconciliation, Accounts Payable and Purchasing processes.  As of August 2026 the object codes used for technology purchasing have changed.  This article contains advice for when to use each of the new codes.

Quick Reference Table

Code Use For UIS Approval Required? Asset Tag Required?
7708 $5k+ technology purchases Yes Yes
7424 Sub-$5k computers and network-connected equipment Yes Yes
7422 Sub-$5k digital equipment that doesn't connect to the network No No
7410 Digital non-tangibles (software, web services, apps, etc.) Yes No
7404 Digital biomedical devices for use with patients. Yes Yes

7708: Capital Digital Technology Purchases

Use this code for all purchases of digital technology where a technology item (or combined system) costs $5,000 or more.

Purchases in this category always require UIS pre-purchase approval and, if a physical device, require a Fixed Asset asset tag.

7424: Computers and Networked Equipment

Use this code for all computers (including desktops and laptops) and all digital devices that are meant to be connected to the Internet or a Pacific network (including tablets, telephones, smart speakers, network routers or switches, smart televisions, network printers, networked cameras).

Purchases in this category always require UIS pre-purchase approval and require a UIS asset tag.

7422: Non-Networked Minor Digital Equipment

Use this code for all digital equipment and computer peripherals that are under $5,000 and not meant to be connected to the internet or a Pacific network, such as keyboards, mice, webcams, toner cartridges, thumb-drives, monitors, cables, adapters).

Purchases in this category do not require UIS pre-purchase approval and do not require a UIS asset tag.

7410: Digital Non-Tangible Purchases

Use this code for all non-tangible digital purchases, including software, licenses, apps, online services/subscriptions, web hosting, website domains, telecom services, and warranties/service contracts for digital equipment.

Purchases in this category always require UIS pre-purchase approval but do not require an asset tag.

7404: Biomedical Digital Devices

Use this code for digital devices used for clinical care of patients.

Purchases in this category always require UIS pre-purchase approval and require a UIS asset tag.

7209: Minor-Equipment (Non-Digital) Under $5,000

Previously, this was the suggested object code for non-capital technology purchases such as computers, printers, monitors, tablets, etc.  This code should no longer be used for digital technology equipment.  It can be used for non-digital equipment such as paper shredder or drill.
