Human Interpretation Services

Google Gemini & Google Translate
All students and employees can utilize Google Translate to translate text between various languages. Google Gemini, a general purpose AI chatbot, can also be used to translate text or documents. An advantage of using Google Gemini is that you can give it instructions as to tone and vernacular (e.g. "use friendly and informal word choices.")

Google Chrome
The Google Chrome web browser has built in features to automatically translate the text of webpages. See Google's documentation on this feature for more.
Chrome can also create live captions for any speech played by a webpage and can auto-translate that to other languages. See Google's documentation on this feature.

Zoom Translated Captions
For live speech, Zoom Translated Captions licenses can be purchased through UIS (current cost if $50 per meeting host per year). UIS also has a check-out license that can be borrowed by hosts who only occasionally need translated captions. When enabled, this license allows meeting or webinar attendees to view captions of all the speech in a meeting in one of several languages of their choosing.
Like other Zoom AI features, which can be used in meetings discussing sensitive information up to and including FERPA protected student data (but not HIPAA protected patient health information).
Healthcare Translation Services
Speciality healthcare translation services are in use by our healthcare clinics. Clinicians should speak with clinic managers about the approved translation service to be used in different circumstances.
